Searching

Occasional searches of your person and property (including clothing and bags) may be necessary for security purposes. When this occurs, the search will be carried out with maximum discretion.

SY Plus Limited reserves the right to conduct searches if in their manager’s opinion, there is reasonable cause to suspect that alcohol or drugs, or drug paraphernalia, are present at work in breach of this policy. Searches will be conducted with discretion and sensitivity.

A member of the same sex will normally conduct searches wherever possible and employees may be accompanied by a colleague if they wish.

Searches may form part of an accident investigation where there is a belief that a breach of this policy contributed to the accident.

Intimate body searches will not be carried out by SY Plus Limited: this will be the decision of the police, who may carry out such searches if they are involved. It is a requirement of your employment that you submit to a search when requested to do so by an authorised member of management

An employee’s refusal to allow their effects to be searched in accordance with this policy may lead to disciplinary action and may result in summary dismissal.
